Language Documentation Trip: Kugaaruk
In February 2026, the Unaaq Cultural Society traveled to Kugaaruk to record interviews with local Elders.
The trip’s purpose was to record the traditional stories and language in the community. Altogether, we interviewed eight Elders, capturing their incredible stories while documenting the nuances, expressions, and linguistic variations specific to the Netsilik dialect.
Unaaq is working on a website dedicated to showcasing our wide collection of Elder interviews (due the summer of 2026). We believe this will be an incredible resource for preserving the unique stories and dialects of Nunavummiut.
More details coming soon!
